Clan [BGE] - The BattleGrounds Elite had its start in 1996 with Quake 1. Cool Beans, then known as Iceman, joined Clan Deimos. Deimos played in many tournaments and leagues and had two divisions, LPB and HPB. Low-Pinged Bastards and High-Pinged Bastards (dial-up), for those in Rio-Linda. Clan Deimos got its name from one of the moons of Mars.
In late 1997, Iceman moved to Memphis and changed his name to Cool Beans. The he met and began to work with DrinksAlot (aka BubbaFetish) and Warlock. As a group, the three of them played many long hours on the QuakeWorld maps of Team Fortress.
In 1998, Cool Beans teamed up with DrinksAlot (aka BubbaFetish) and Warlock and they formed Clan [BGE]. The name itself is derived from the original name of their Quake servers, The BattleGrounds.
In 1999, the Clan migrated from the game Quake to the game Tribes. During the year we grew to around 15 members. We also established our first Clan server, The BattleGrounds running Tribes.
In 2000, the Clan migrated to Counter-Strike. Warlock moved on to help start a Clan named, Cereal-Killers. Most of the [BGE] membership left to pursue other games and that left Cool Beans and DrinksAlot. After a few months, Cool Beans and DrinksAlot started recruiting for Clan [BGE]. Cool Beans setup a DSL connection at his house and setup a Clan Counter-Strike server. The server was very popular and was always very busy. During this time, we met a player named Schlampe. He was very much a n00b and we spent thousands of hours training him. (j/k)
In 2001, Cool Beans and DrinksAlot moved to EverQuest. Schlampe stayed strong and played Counter-Strike and kept the Clan going. He even setup a Clan server. The Half-Life server listing system has a HUGE bias against Cable modem addresses starting with 24.x.x.x and it sucked and prevented anyone from ever joining the server.
In 2002, Cool Beans, DrinksAlot aka BubbaFetish, and Schlampe began working hard on setting up a Clan structure to begin recruiting. It was determined that the Clan can and should move into multiple games and so it did. After months of reading, reviewing and planning, the year 2003 came around and the website was updated to have a nice message board system and the Charter was drafted and formalized. A membership application system was developed and was put in place.
In 2003, we have begun to grow and have a goal set of around 100 members by the end of the year. We have formed a few game teams and have plans for many more. Currently we have a Battlefield 1942 Game Team, a Rainbow Six: Raven-Shield Game Team and a Unreal Game Team. We tried a few other games but there was not enough activity to maintain them. As the membership grew so did the Clan leadership team of officers. In May, the Clan had its first Officer Conference call. During the fall season, we created a Desert Combat team. The DC team is being lead by a firefighter from California. In November, the Executive Council voted to create a Call Of Duty and Medal Of Honor Game Team.
In 2004, the Battlefield and Call Of Duty teams ended their run. The Rainbow Six and Unreal teams stayed strong. The Executive Council approved several updates to the Clan Constitution. During 2004, both Majai and PKX were promoted to Executive Council. We started renting our own server in Dallas, TX and host our own game servers now. Late in 2004, we founded a EverQuest team and had up to 40 members, including player Alts.
We are now into our seventh year and 2005 has seen us off to a normal start. We are in the process of ending the EverQuest game team. Revamping the entire website to a more customized environment. We are also looking at getting the Battlefield team up and running again.
We had our first clan merger this year. The Unreal team merged with Clan Volks Hammer to form the Red Orchestra game team. It is Captained by Mysticwolf. Now we have 3 full game teams, Rainbow Six, Unreal and Volks Hammer (aka Red Orchestra).
In 2011, we are rebuilding our website, cleaning up the cobwebs, picking up the pieces and we will be back soon!
